Google used to find useful content by keyword relevancy. However, Google is now using Google Social Search to endorse useful and relevant links. Links that are shared by people you know now carry more weight than simple keyword ranking.
So, why do people use Pinterest? They’re not there to hang out like Facebook or to network like LinkedIn, and they’re not looking for written content. What people mostly do is use Pinterest to relax, take a break and look at some cool images. For marketers, this means we need to avoid hard sell tactics at all costs and content needs to be visually appealing.

I mentioned that Stuff I like is powerful for branding. One of the ideas I came across was from GE’s pinboards. They used them to brand the company, showing it from the inside out. They made boards that showed how their products go from the factory floor to the store shelves. If you can find a way to use your boards to showcase your business’s inside operation, this is great for branding.
You can easily learn how to create your own fan pages for your business on Facebook. And in your fan pages, you can also learn how to create apps where your fans or friends can just click on it and instantly gets access or opts-in to your web or capture page. Facebook does provide helpful instructions on how to do this.
One final note on social media: Always include links. Social media is ultimately designed to drive traffic. “To where?” you ask. To wherever people will be most convinced that they want to read your work. Sometimes that is your website, other times it’s your Amazon page. Don’t be afraid to lead them around a bit, either. For instance, I often use Twitter to drive traffic to Facebook, and Facebook to my various websites. Get people to follow the links-it will help your SEO results if you do it right.
